The Indian Government has launched a system to monitor every citizen’s online habit. If you happen to post anything in the internet say your FB status, or Twitter or email with words like “bomb”, “attack” ,”blast” ,”kill” then you will be marked as a potential terrorist! Yes you read it write you will be marked as potential terrorist just for posting a status update in the internet which contains certain keywords.
I wonder what will happen if I post a status update like say: “I had a blasting my friends party!”
The NETRA as per I have knowledge is a hardware device which has a 300 GB capacity and is installed in the ISP’s end to capture the traffic. It is installed now in more than 1000 locations. What the Government is trying to do is just invade privacy of all the internet users of the country. A thought that also arises in my mind is that how much of personal data is stored by NETRA? and how much secure is it? If this device stores personal data of a large number of people, then what will happen if some one hacks into NETRA? Who will then be answerable?

India Central Monitoring System the surveillance project is prepared by the Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring (TREM) and Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) for India Government and being manned by the Intelligence Bureau. According to Anonymous the ICMS can monitor everything you do online, even without a suspicion of crime. This means that the government will have full access to your phone calls, chat logs and e-mails, even without telling you why.
They did not even said it t you that something like ICMS was there, but I have posted a link that has a Govt. document to prove it’s there.
What is the ICMS capable of doing?
- The system can monitor content like e-mails, chats, and transcribed call logs etc, documents, web forms, video files, audio files and internet content.
- It supports analytics including automated text mining, sentiment analysis, link analysis, geospatial analysis, statistical analysis, social network analysis, transaction analysis, location analysis and fusion based analysis from various sources.
- The system should be able to monitor targets like Internet Protocol address, login details, keywords, email, telephone location, new email ID details, IP range, links etc.
- It will be capable of complete email extraction including but not limited to address book, inbox, sent, drafts, personal folders, deleted folders etc.
- It will allow country wise tracking of IM, Chats & emails.
- Real time visualization screens showing results from real-time data and capability to transliterate to other languages.

So basically in short it means that whatever you say , write on the internet or on your phone will be known to Government irrespective of the fact if you are a criminal or a good citizen. Freedom and Privacy has been thrown out of the window by the Government. In India there is no privacy law yet, which can protect you from infringement of privacy and other human rights.
Sign the petition started here http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Stop_CMS_Monitoring_and_respect_our_privacy/?wezpFeb may be we can stop it.
Do share it with your friends and family, the more people knows about it more are the chances to stop it.
Government should understand, that The Internet is not a part of the country they should not take over it.
Few major websites wrote about ICMS.

Indian Government has decided to censor the Internet. They will be monitoring your Facebook , Twitter, YouTube Videos and blog posts. And they will remove anything that they find objectionable. I wonder what will they find objectionable ? As far as my knowledge goes you are not allowed to post any objectionable contain on social network by the social networking company itself, and if you post your contain will be removed by the concerned social network. I am sure you have seen YouTube videos being pulled down by YouTube as it was objectionable, no Government of any country had to ask YouTube or Google to do so, they did it themselves.
So, what is our Government trying to block? And what will they think as objectionable? If some activist opens a Facebook Page and share contents about the injustice done by Government bodies, or perhaps a blog post asking for justice about some on going case, or may be a tweet where a person share his/her thoughts about some Government policies.
Who knows what Government will be planning to do next? May be they will create a nation on ban on social media. (Yes Government can do that , they can ask all the ISP in the country to block specific sites and all the ISP will have to follow) Some of you guys may think that wont be a problem as you will use proxy or VPN but Government can block that too. If you don,t believe check this how China blocks VPN.
I have always thought that Internet as Freedom, as this is the only medium where people can share their views with other people and exchange views, to me freedom on the internet is freedom of speech and expression. But I don’t think that we will be able to do so in the coming days if the Government goes on censoring. May be this post will be censored too, so share this post and comment your views before it happens.
